Frequently Asked Questions
What is seed cycling?
Seed cycling is a technique that naturally helps your body regulate its sex hormone levels (namely estrogen and progesterone) by alternating different seeds (flax, pumpkin, sesame and sunflower) during the two different phases of your menstrual cycle. This is very much a “food as medicine” technique.
What does seed cycling consist of?
If you have a regular period you’ll track your ovulation and switch seed groups after you ovulate and then again when you get your period.
If you have an irregular cycle or a missing period, you can use the cycles of the moon to create an easy to follow seed cycling rhythm in your life.
During your follicular phase or the new moon to the full moon, you incorporate pumpkin and flax seeds (phase 1 seeds).
During your luteal phase or the full moon to the next new moon, you incorporate sesame and sunflower seeds (phase 2 seeds).
Why seeds?
This combination of seeds contains a wide variety of vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids and fiber that help support ovarian function and hormone production (think testosterone, estrogen and progesterone), and thus overall menstrual health.
We’ll dive into the benefits of each seed inside the Challenge!
Can I start seed cycling at any point during my cycle?
Yes, you can!
Seed cycling is flexible and can be started at any time – you just need to align the seeds (phase 1 or phase 2) with where you are in your cycle (or the moon cycle).
For example, if you’re in your luteal phase on the challenge start date, you’d start with phase 2 seeds, and switch to phase 1 seeds when you get your period, continuing from there.
Which Protocol should I follow? Regular periods or Irregular & Missing periods?
If you have a regular period (a cycle that lasts between 25 & 45 days for the purpose of this challenge), you’ll track your ovulation and switch seed groups after you ovulate, and then again when you get your period.
If you have an irregular or long cycle (more than 45 days long or it feels all over the place) or a missing period, you can use the phases of the moon to create an easy to follow seed cycling rhythm in your life.
We’ll dive into this during the Challenge kickoff call so that there’s no confusion!
Who can benefit from seed cycling?
Pretty much everyone! 🌱 No matter where you are in your hormonal journey, seed cycling can provide support, balance, and nourishment.
- Teens – Supports cycle regulation and hormonal balance during puberty.
- 20s & 30s – Helps ease PMS, improve irregular cycles, lighten heavy periods and support transitions on or off birth control.
- Pregnancy – Offers essential nutrients like healthy fats, fiber, and key minerals to nourish both mom and baby. (No need to follow the typical phase-based pattern – simply enjoy the seeds anytime for added nutritional support).
- Postpartum – Offers essential nutrients, aids in cycle recovery and supports healing after childbirth.
- Perimenopause – Promotes hormonal balance and regularity, as well as helps address common peri symptoms during this transitional phase.
- Menopause – Provides valuable nutritional support and maintains a cyclical connection (when you follow the phases of the moon).
Is this appropriate for someone on hormonal birth control?
Absolutely. The birth control pill can deplete key nutrients, so incorporating those nutrients into your diet can be tremendously beneficial. Seed cycling helps replenish magnesium, zinc, selenium, copper and essential fatty acids which are important for our overall health.

What if I don’t have a period at all?
That’s totally okay! Just follow the moon cycle as your guide 🌑🌕 More info on this inside the Challenge.
What if I can’t make the live calls?
No worries! All live calls will be recorded and uploaded to the challenge hub, so you can watch (or rewatch) them at your convenience.
Can I Participate If I Don’t Live in the U.S.?
Absolutely! The challenge is open worldwide. While Beeya’s seed cycling kits only ship within the U.S., you can easily find the seeds at your local grocery store, health food store, or online.
Once you’re registered, we’ll share recommendations inside the challenge hub to help you source the best options in your country!
How much time will seed cycling take each day?
Seed cycling is super simple! It only takes a few moments to add the seeds to your meals—blend them into smoothies, sprinkle them on yogurt or salads, mix them into oatmeal, bake into recipes or even just eat them by the spoonful!
What are the benefits or what results can I expect?
While everyone’s body is different, many people (of all ages) notice:
- More regular cycles
- Reduced PMS symptoms (less bloating, mood swings etc)
- Less period pain (cramping)
- Lighter periods (if you experience heavy periods)
- Improvement in spotting or irregular bleeding
- Return of a missing period
- Better skin
- More stable energy & moods
- Improved digestion
Consistency is key, and this challenge will help you stay on track! We recommend continuing seed cycling after the challenge end date (this is why we’ve provided a discount on Beeya’s 3-month kits!)
Tell me more about Beeya?
Beeya makes seed cycling so easy for you!
Their organic superfood blends provide targeted nutrients to bring back balance to your natural hormonal rhythm.
Use one scoop of phase 1 blend per day during the first half of your cycle, and one scoop of their phase 2 blend per day during the second half of your cycle.
Bonus: Beeya seeds include hemp seeds and chamomile powder in addition to the classic flax, pumpkin, sesame and sunflower seeds – leveling up your seed cycling game!
You’ll get a $10 discount on seeds when you register.
Do I have to use the Beeya seeds?
No! Using Beeya is not required. You can go to your local grocery or health foods store, or even order them on Amazon. We recommend purchasing organic seeds and you’ll need a grinder as well. We provide additional options and prep info for all of this once you register.
What if I’m allergic to any of the seeds?
If you are allergic to any of the seeds then you would not use those seeds. Some people swap seeds they are allergic to for other nutrient-dense options, and we’ll discuss possible modifications inside the challenge
What’s the difference between white and black sesame seeds?
Both are great for seed cycling! The main difference between the two are different flavors and nutritional properties. You can use either, but black sesame seeds offer extra mineral support!
Do I have to be a Fix Your Period Collective member to join?
Yes! This is an exclusive members-only challenge, available to anyone in the Flow Sister, Menstruation Maven, or Period Queen tiers.
If you’re new to the Collective, you can start with a 7-day free trial, which means you can try the challenge risk-free!

While we recommend starting with the group on February 27th, you can join until March 1st and get easily caught up. After that, registration will be closed!
This is a members-only challenge, so you’ll need to join the Fix Your Period Collective by February 26th to participate.
